MQ&C Wins the Underdog Award at the 2008 AWRT Battle of the Media Stars
Austin, TX – October 23, 2008 – On Thursday, October 16, MQ&C Advertising won the coveted "Underdog Award" at the American Women of Radio and Television's 2008 "Battle of the Media Stars" competition. The Underdog Award goes to the team who gives the best effort at the competition despite not actually placing in the event based upon total points earned.
The AWRT event pits the members of media agencies, stations, and other media-related organizations against each other in a heated competition. It gives them the chance to duke it out not for the best media rates or exposure - but rather on a "battlefield" consisting of physical activities, games and performances. Present at the event each year are famous emcees (who this year was Bobby Bones of radio station 96.7) and judges, and pictures of the event are displayed throughout the year at other AWRT events.
With this year's Underdog Award going to MQ&C, the agency has now won the award for three consecutive years. MQ&C's modest-sized team played valiantly against other media organizations of various sizes, many of which had so many members present that they entered three teams in the event.
The MQ&C team was headed-up by MQ&C co-founder Cindy Carman. It was composed of members of the media and account executive departments, including Ilaria Bonalumi, Victor Barlow, Liz Rodriguez, Linda Sanchez, Juli Sarich, and Page Schneider. Events included musical chairs, a water balloon toss, a sack race, a spirit competition, a pizza eating contest, and tug of war.
MQ&C attributes their having won this year's Underdog Award to their passion for strategy and creativity. The team wore camouflage shirts labeled with the words "Guerrilla Marketing." They recruited body builders for a little extra muscle in the tug of war competition, and they fastidiously measured their legs for compatibility in advance of the sack race. They even gave a strategic spirit performance: they taped a "target" icon and the words “Target Audience" onto Cindy, and they then proceeded to "sneak up" on her with Nerf guns and shot her down, in true guerilla fashion.
The annual event benefits the AWRT Scholarship Fund, which is awarded to students pursuing a career in the communications industry.
